As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of each musician individually in this recital series. Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how.
In 2024 the ANAM Set is back in a special iteration. Musicians in their 3rd year of training present a specially commissioned work as part of their recital program.
Rendez-vous aux antipodes
Music for flute by Charles-Marie Widor, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Liza Lim and Salina Fisher.
"Francis Poulenc’s Flute Sonata is one of the most recognisable works composed for the instrument. Along with Charles-Marie Widor’s Suite Op. 34, and Claude Debussy’s Pour Invoquer Pan, these pieces are considered to be masterworks of the French flute repertoire.
I am looking forward to performing these celebrated works, together with two contemporary compositions for solo flute from Australia and New Zealand, Liza Lim’s Bioluminescence and Salina Fisher’s Yozora. These exciting works evoke new sound worlds and capture the flute’s expressive and technical range.
I am excited to be presenting the world premiere of Yozora in this recital, having workshopped it with Salina as part of the 2024 ANAM Set!" - Anna Rabinowicz
