ANAM Recital: Sophie Spencer (trumpet)

ANAM Recitals enable each musician to make their own personal musical statement, through performance, repertoire and presentation.

A journey through the 20th Century.

I am excited to play a collection of 20th century works alongside Louisa Breen (piano) for my second year ANAM Recital. The recital will open with Hansen’s beautiful and powerful Sonata for cornet and piano - a piece which allows for personal interpretation and expression. Next I will play Tomasi’s Triptique, a technically challenging work which is thoroughly exciting to play and listen to. In contrast, Takemitsu’s solo trumpet work, Paths, is a much freer work which uses the Harmon mute to explore the different tone colours of the trumpet. Finally, Lovelock’s Trumpet Concerto is a work full of passion, spirit and liveliness. I hope to capture these characters until the final statement!
