Howard Penny, ANAM Cello Faculty and Head of Strings, leads a program of three masterworks for strings crowned by Bartók’s exhilarating Divertimento, the last work from the composer before he fled Europe for the United States in 1939. Whilst Brahms’ Second String Sextet reveals its origins in the years in which the composer’s output overflowed with song and vocal music, and saw the gestation of his German Requiem.
