2018 MusiciansPhoebe Masel

A recent graduate of the University of Queensland, Phoebe Masel completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours under the tutelage of Associate Professor Adam Chalabi. During her time at UQ, she won the UQ Sleath String Prize (2016), the Richard Pollett Memorial String Prize (2016 and 2017) and the 4MBS Musica Viva Sid Page Memorial Prize in Chamber Music (2016 and 2017). She was concertmaster of the UQ Pulse Chamber Orchestra and the UQ Symphony Orchestra, and was named as a Dean's Scholar in 2016. She represented UQ at the New York University 2016 Winter Strings Conference.

As part of the Australian Youth Orchestra she has toured extensively in Australia, Europe and China, and performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Momentum Ensemble. At National Music Camp earlier this year Phoebe was concertmaster of the Bishop Orchestra and led the Porter Chamber Orchestra in 2017.

Passionate about chamber music, Phoebe has been mentored by members of the Jerusalem, Takács, Elias, Goldner and Tinalley Quartets. In 2017, she performed at the Musica Viva Festival with the AYO Chamber Players and was a Next Generation Artist with the Southern Cross Soloists. Phoebe feels immensely privileged to be studying at ANAM in 2018 and is grateful for the support and guidance of her current teacher, Dr Robin Wilson.

Phoebe plays a Louis Guersan 1700’s Violin Loaned to ANAM by the Bokhara Foundation.
