2017 Percussion Short Course

In 2017 ANAM is excited to be able to offer percussionists from all across Australia and New Zealand, the unique opportunity to work with three of America’s greatest percussionists. Led by ANAM’s Head of Percussion, Peter Neville, our 2017 Percussion Short Course will enable percussionists to further develop their skills and be immersed in ANAM’s world class performance based training program.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work first-hand with three legends of percussion, each of whom have been a major influence on our art-form and have themselves worked with the who’s who of composers, to create a number of our most important solo and chamber music works (Peter Neville ANAM Head of Percussion)


Participants can attend all or part of the two-week short course:
> Steve Schick 26 September – 30 September
> William Winant 30 September – 3 October
> Jan Williams 3 October – 7 October


COST: Full Scholarship for successful applicants (participants are to arrange and cover the cost of all travel and accommodation for their duration of stay in Melbourne)

WHAT: As a participant in this short course, you’ll get the opportunity to:

  • Work with world class visiting percussionists
    > Steve Schick
    > William Winant
    > Jan Williams
  • Participate in public concert/s as part of ANAMs American Triptych Festival celebrating the music of Lou Harrison and other great American composers
  • Attend masterclasses, performer insight discussions and more
  • Meet and network with percussionists from across Australia
  • Gain an understanding of the diverse training program offered at ANAM

Key Dates

  • Applications Open: Monday 10 April
  • Application close: Friday 30 June*
  • Application Results released: Friday 14 July – ANAM reserves the right to alter the release date
  • Course Dates: Tuesday 25 September – Saturday 7 October (inclusive)

*Please note: All recorded audition material and supporting documentation must be submitted by Friday 30 June

Application Requirements:

  • Complete Application form
  • Supply Recorded Audition material (MP4/MOV format – recordings can be no longer than 15-min in duration)
  • Supply supporting documentation:
    > A letter of recommendation from your current or most recent Tertiary Head of Percussion
    > A short statement (200-words) outlining why you would like to be a part of this course

Audition Repertoire:

  • Applicants own choice of work for marimba or vibraphone, written for the instrument not a transcription
  • Applicants free choice work for multi-percussion

Step 2: Submit Recorded Audition material / Supporting Documentation

Once you have completed and submitted your application form, you will be contacted by ANAM with a Dropbox File request to submit your recorded audition material and supporting documentation.

Applicants must submit the following to complete their application to the Percussion Short Course:

  1. Recorded Audition material
  2. A letter of recommendation from your current or most recent Tertiary Head of Percussion
  3. A short statement (200-words) outlining why you would like to be a part of this course
