ANAM International Academy Program

Since 2009, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) Academy has offered an educational model that provides young musicians with high-quality orchestral experience and a unique platform for networking and international exchange. In addition to audition training, individual coaching and orchestral playing, the Academy also includes chamber music workshops which emphasise the MCO’s characteristic chamber music approach to music-making.

Orchestral instrumentalists from the following training Academies are invited to audition in April each year for the MCO Academy: Orchesterzentrum | NRW, Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC), Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Filarmónica Joven de Colombia (FJC), and Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). Auditions are via audio/visual recording for ANAM musicians, performing a set list of orchestral excerpts and set work/s. Successful candidates from ANAM are offered financial support towards the cost of flights and accommodation to assist with meeting the cost of participation.

Generously supported by Naomi Milgrom and Harold Mitchell, ANAM facilitates a position for a current ANAM musician or alumni to attend the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy on full scholarship and with a living stipend, for two years. Harry Bennetts (violin) attended 2016 - 2018, and Riley Skevington (violin) was appointed the position in 2018 until 2020.

Auditions for the next position will be held in early 2020 for commencement in Berlin in September 2020. Eligible musicians and alumni aged 27 years or under at 1 September 2020 are encouraged to apply.

Generously supported by Jane Hansen, ANAM announced a new two-year position in 2019 with the Bavarian State Opera Academy in Munich open to current ANAM musicians or alumni (all orchestral instruments) aged 25 and under at the time of commencement. Applications are currently being reviewed for the first position which will commence in mid-2019.

Auditions via audio/visual recording for the 2021-2023 position will take place in early 2021.
