MusiciansKate Worley

In 2021, Kate will be collaborating with Paul Grabowsky for The ANAM Set.

Born in Adelaide, Kate Worley commenced Suzuki violin lessons at the age of eight. A love of music-making with her peers was cultivated in Kate from an early age, as she became involved with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and subsequently the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO). It was at her first AYO National Music Camp in 2013 that Kate first seriously considered pursuing a career in music. Kate has since performed nationally and internationally with the AYO, holding principal positions on both violin and viola.

Kate spent four sunny years in Brisbane completing her Bachelor of Music in violin performance at the Queensland Conservatorium under Michele Walsh. She relished the many ensemble opportunities available to her during this time, being concertmaster of the Symphony and Opera Orchestras and recipient of the Matilda Jane Aplin, John Curro Viola and Ross Peters 4MBS Chamber Music prizes. Kate completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in 2018 and was awarded the Conservatorium and University medals.

In 2019, Kate moved to freezing cold Melbourne to commence viola studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under Caroline Henbest. Highlights of her fast-paced first year included touring with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and performing in the ANAM Chamber Music Competition finals. As for everyone, 2020 brought an abrupt change of pace, as Kate relocated to Adelaide due to the pandemic. She treasured the opportunity to spend time with family and friends in Adelaide during this period, and thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with pianist Yundi Yuan in their performance for the Recitals Australia Lunch Hour Series. It must be said, however, that after a year of predominantly solitary music-making, Kate is eager to again be surrounded (in person!) by the wonderful musicians, staff and supporters at ANAM. She looks forward to the year with a renewed sense of gratitude for the beauty and joy that the sharing of music brings to her life.
