MusiciansJordan Mattinson

Hailing from far-north Queensland, Jordan Mattinson began learning the trombone at a young age, and quickly became fond of the instrument. After joining the Cairns Brass Band, his liking for the trombone developed into a passion and lead him to Sydney in 2019 to commence a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. There, studying under Ashley Carter, Nigel Crocker and Scott Kinmont, many opportunities opened up to further his career as a professional musician, and Jordan is now excited to be joining the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) to continue his studies with Scott Kinmont and Michael Mulcahy.

While living in Sydney, Jordan was a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra (2019-21), and also performed with the Conservatorium’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Opera Orchestra. In 2019, Jordan participated in a masterclass with international trombone soloist Peter Steiner on his tour around Australia, and has since participated in masterclasses run by some of Australia’s leading brass musicians.

An earnest musical theatre fan, Jordan has invested in seeing and performing in a variety of musicals, both onstage roles as well as in the orchestra pit. When he’s not in a practice room with his trombone he is often found whistling and singing along to show tunes.

Aside from performing orchestral music, Jordan is an avid coffee drinker, enjoys downhill mountain biking and bushwalking, and loves a good beach run with his mates.
