MusiciansJordan Mattinson

Hailing from Far North Queensland, Jordan started learning the trombone at a young age, and quickly became fond of the instrument. Throughout four years of being a member of the Cairns Brass band, he developed a love of playing the trombone as an ensemble instrument which led him to Sydney where he finished his 4th year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2022 studying under Ashley Carter, Nigel Crocker and Scott Kinmont.

While studying in Sydney many opportunities opened up to further his career as a professional musician, eventually leading him to ANAM where he is excited to be continuing his studies for a second year under the guidance of Colin Prichard.

Jordan was a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra from 2019-2021, and also performed with the Conservatorium’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Opera Orchestra. A member of the Australian Youth Orchestra since 2022, Jordan toured with AYO along Australia’s east coast performing Strauss’ epic tone poem, Eine Alpensinfonie, under the baton of Sir Mark Elder. Since moving to Melbourne, Jordan has loved being a part of Melbourne’s vibrant arts community and has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria.

On top of a full time load studying at ANAM, Jordan enjoys a number of different interests. An earnest musical theatre fan, he has invested time into seeing and performing in a variety of musicals, including onstage roles as well as in the orchestra pit.

He is an avid coffee drinker, downhill mountain biker and is enthusiastic about all things aviation - having clocked 2 hours in the cockpit of a Cessna 172, as well as being the proud owner of a fleet of six scale 1:200 model planes!
