A clarinettist originally from Perth, Jarrad is beginning his third year of training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2021 with David Thomas.
He began his tertiary studies in 2014 at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), studying under the WA Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Clarinet, Allan Meyer. Whilst at WAAPA, he began to cultivate a strong interest in orchestral and chamber music performance. Jarrad was a finalist in the Warana Concerto Competition in 2016, and performed as Principal Clarinet of the Faith Court Orchestra throughout his time at WAAPA. He was an active member of the WA Youth Orchestra from 2014-2017, touring internationally with the orchestra in 2016.
Jarrad transferred his studies to the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University where he studied under Paul Dean, and completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance in 2018. He performed as soloist in the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, and was Principal Clarinet of the Queensland Youth Symphony in 2018. Whilst at the Conservatorium, Jarrad was selected to perform in masterclasses with soloists Julian Bliss and Sabine Meyer.
Jarrad has taken part in programs through the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute, appeared twice as Principal Clarinet on tours to China with the Australian International Opera Company, performed with Brisbane-based chamber ensemble Southern Cross Soloists, as well as casually with WASO and QSO.
Aside from playing the clarinet, Jarrad is passionate about the environment, skateboarding and spending large amounts of time at the beach.
