2017 Musicians & FellowsMathew Levy

Born in Sydney, Mathew is a percussionist and timpanist currently in his second year of study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). Mathew holds a Bachelor of Music (first-class honours) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied with Daryl Pratt, Mark Robinson and Richard Miller.

In 2012 Mathew was awarded first place in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Award and as a result completed a mentorship with the MSO the following year. Additionally, in 2012 Mathew was awarded the Reuben Scarf Award for Percussion. In 2015 he was selected as a winner in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Concerto Competition. In 2016 he performed Michael Daugherty’s Percussion Concerto UFO with the Sydney Conservatorium Wind Symphony.

Mathew has performed with a variety of orchestras including Orchestra Victoria, Sydney Symphony, Sydney Symphony Sinfonia and the Sydney Youth Orchestra. He has also performed with a range of new music ensembles including the Alaska Project and Sideband, as well as a side-by-side project with the Elision Ensemble. Mathew has also been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra since 2012 and has taken part in two international tours under the batons of Christoph Eschenbach and Manfred Honick.
