Karla Hanna is a violinist from Victoria and is currently in her third year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). She began learning the violin at the age of three after watching her older sister take lessons and has since had the privilege of studying under numerous teachers including William Hennessy, Robin Wilson and is now learning from Sophie Rowell.
In 2012 Karla was a finalist in Melbourne Recital Centre’s Bach competition and in 2013 won the Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra in a concerto workshop playing the 1st movement of the Elgar violin concerto, as well as being a finalist in Melbourne Youth Music’s Virtuosity Concerto Competition. In 2015 Karla was also a string finalist in the Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial awards.
A keen orchestral player, Karla was a member of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra from 2012-2014 where she held the positions of Principal 2nd and Concertmaster. In 2016 she toured Europe and China with the Australian Youth Orchestra and in 2017 held the position of Concertmaster.
She enjoys playing chamber music and has performed with the MYO quartet in collaborations with musicians of different genres in community projects.
