2017 Musicians & FellowsJovan Pantelich

Jovan Pantelich is a Melbourne based cellist studying at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). In 2011 he commenced studies with Howard Penny, with whom he studies today. Previously he was a student of Nelson Cooke, who was the preferred cellist of The Beatles.

Jovan’s 2016 engagements included an Australian recital tour with Finnish concert pianist Paavali Jumppanen, a European competition and study trip to Berlin and Zurich, and an ANAM recital evaluated as “excellent”. Jovan has performed in classes with cellists such as Steven Isserlis, Jens Peter Maintz and Julian Steckel, and has been mentored by Michelle Wood, Claudius Herrmann and Richard Lester. Apart from leading the ANAM Orchestra, Jovan has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, as well as chamber music with Paavali Jumppanen, Alex Raineri and Riley Skevington.

2017 promises to be another busy year for Jovan, having managed to be double-booked three times in the first two months of the year. He performs on a cello by an unknown but well-respected Romanian maker ca. 2006.
