2017 Musicians & FellowsCarol Wang

Carol started playing Bassoon from the age 9 when her very first teacher chose her because she was one of the only students who could hold a regular size bassoon - she hasn’t look back since!

Since moving from China to New Zealand in 2010, Carol has received numerous national and international accolades for her solo performance, including a Pettman National Junior Academy of Music Scholarship and several prizes in the Australian Double Reeds Competition.

Carol has been involved with several professional orchestras, such as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and has performed as one of the soloists alongside her former teacher Ben Hoadley in Vanhal’s Double Bassoon Concerto with Devonport Chamber Orchestra.

Commencing her studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2017, Carol says so far it has been one of the greatest musical experiences in her life. She has been working with her wonderful fellow ANAM musicians and world-class bassoon players such as Elise Millman, Matthew Wilkie and Lyndon Watts. She is inspired by the high standard music making in Australia and she is very excited to be on board.

Apart from being a musician, Carol is also involved with multiple activities in the fashion industry and is a big fan of skydiving.
