Beth began her studies on the violin at the ripe age of five with her mother Louise “Mother-goose” Ray. At age 13 Beth changed to viola and has since studied under Marco van Pagee, Bridget Crouch, Trevor Jones, Lilli Maijala and most recently Fiona Sargeant.
Having graduated with an Arts degree majoring in French and Sociology and a concurrent Diploma of Music, Beth completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne in 2015 (and still can't remember why she did an Arts degree but enjoyed the time to soul search).
Beth was the 2013 Corinna D'Hage Mayer string scholarship recipient at the University of Melbourne. In the sunny February of 2014, Beth went on exchange to the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, learning under Lilli Maijala, fortunate to be awarded with grants from Global Mobility to enable her exchange. In 2015, she performed a viola concerto with the Australian Doctors Orchestra in Port Macquarie and toured with Victorian Opera and Hugh Jackman.
Beth participated in Australian Youth Orchestra projects from 2012-2016, her most recent program being the 2016 international tour – a highlight! More recently Beth has been performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. This year is Beth’s second year of study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and she is excited to be learning with the wonderful Caroline Henbest.
Enthusiastic about music education, Beth is a dedicated instrumental teacher to many young bright and keen legends.
