Vicky was born in Sydney and raised with a background of piano and ballet. When she was 11, her father brought home a recording of Yo-Yo Ma’s ‘Ecstasy of Gold’ by Ennio Morricone. Invigorated by the energy of the cello, she began her own journey with the instrument two weeks later.
Vicky began cello studies with Patrick Murphy before continuing with Susan Blake throughout her high school years and onwards. She received a full scholarship throughout her participation in the Rising Stars Program at the Sydney Conservatorium. She has learnt from Georg Pedersen at the Sydney Conservatorium and completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) under the tutelage of Umberto Clerici. In 2016 upon graduation, she was awarded the Billings Prize for Young Cellists by the University of Sydney. Vicky is deeply grateful for all her teachers in Sydney and is very excited to be continuing studies as a second year with Howard Penny at ANAM this year.
Vicky is an extremely passionate chamber musician. In 2015, she participated in the Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Italy(Verona) as part of the Australis Quartet, taking masterclasses with the Amaryllis Quartet. She has also been a participant of FEMUSC (Festival de Música de Santa Catarina, Brazil) for two years, directed by Alex Klein, undertaking masterclasses headed by Hans Jensen, Eduardo Vassallo and Richard Young of the Vermeer Quartet. She has worked alongside members of the Goldner Quartet in this year’s Four Winds Easter Festival directed by James Crabb. This year, she will be participating as a member of a Cello Ensemble in the Australian Chamber Music Festival in Townsville, directed by Kathryn Stott.
Vicky is inspired by music’s ability to draw individuals and communities together and how it can positively influence society on a larger scale.
Vicky is a fan of world cultures and loves to cook in her spare time.
