Danish-Chinese pianist Sine Winther is an emerging soloist and collaborative musician based in Melbourne and Brisbane.
She began piano lessons with her parents (who were both concert pianists) and began performing in the family house concert series ‘Piano Viva’ from an early age. Sine graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Advanced Performance in 2016, where she was mentored by Leah Horwitz and Natasha Vlassenko. Throughout her studies, she curated the South Brisbane Old Town Hall Concert Series, was Winner of the Queensland Piano Competition, and performed at the semi-finals of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. She has received masterclasses from renowned artists such as Angela Hewitt, Pascal Rogé, Piers Lane, Roy Howat, Joanna MacGregor and Kathryn Stott.
Having moved to Melbourne in 2017, Sine works as a freelancing musician whilst training with Timothy Young, and attending her second year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).
Some recent performance highlights include giving her UK debut at the 2017 Dartington International Festival and Summer School and performing with the Affinity Collective Piano Trio. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Queensland Philharmonia and Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestras, performed at the Australian Showcase at the Sydney International Piano Competition, and has been broadcast on 4MBs, 3MBs and ABC Classic FM.
Believing that music creates another world – where the invisible flux of thoughts, feelings, sensations and ideas are materialised – Sine aspires to broaden her musical understanding and pianistic ability in both traditional and new music, and to pass her passion for music onto her students. When she’s not sitting at the piano, Sine enjoys cooking, walking amongst nature, and dog-spotting.
IN SINE'S WORDS
“I am interested in the international classical music scene. I also enjoy having the opportunities to meet guest artists from overseas.”
