Rachel Lau is a recent graduate of Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, completing her Bachelor of Music in 2018. Although piano was her first musical instrument, her true first love was evident from the moment she picked up a flute at the age of 9. She was awarded her Associate Diploma with Distinction at the age of 14 as well as the Leslie Barklamb Flute Award from the Australian Music Examinations Board for that year, and the following year she received her Licentiate Diploma with Distinction.
After receiving a Fellowship of Music in Flute Performance with Trinity College London while studying with Margaret Crawford, she moved from her home city of Melbourne to Brisbane to study with Virginia Taylor at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
Music is a gift and a pleasure that Rachel enjoys sharing and experiencing with others, both through performing and teaching. In the future she wants to maintain an emphasis on both aspects in her musical pursuits, and is excited to be commencing study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2019.
IN RACHEL'S WORDS
“I love bubble tea! I’m always up for trying a new flavour, with extra pearls. I also dream of becoming an artist who can vividly communicate the things I feel inside, and to be able to connect with the audience and other musicians through our shared experience.”
