2019 MusiciansNicholas McManus

Nicholas (Nick) McManus was born and raised in the inner west of Sydney, where he began to play the cello with group lessons at the age of seven. He had wonderful teachers at school who instilled values of musicality and performance from a young age, and who inspired him to pursue further study at the Sydney Conservatorium. Nick graduated in 2018 under the tutelage of Julian Smiles, and will commence training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) with Howard Penny in 2019.

Nick fell in love with chamber music after forming a string quartet with friends during his time at the Sydney Conservatorium. Since then, he has had the pleasure of being awarded the Henderson Travellers Scholarship, and a place at the Estivo Summer School in Verona, Italy.

Nick’s favourite musical activities is working with amazing musicians to create intimate chamber performances, and he hopes that this will be an important part of his future career.
