2018 MusiciansMitchell Jones

Mitchell is a 23-year-old clarinettist born in Cairns, whose passion lies in classical music. His ambition is to immerse himself into symphonies. Mitchell finds the journey of the symphony fascinating and enjoys conveying each story to the audience. Embracing the excitement, energy and enthusiasm of the surrounding musicians within the orchestra is an amazing experience.

Mitchell completed his Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium, studying under Paul Dean and Floyd Williams. In 2014, Mitchell completed a six-month internship with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and since then has worked regularly as a casual musician. Currently studying at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under David Thomas, Mitchell is enjoying gaining experience in chamber music.

Some of Mitchell ‘s favourite composers are Mozart and Shostakovich. Shostakovich has a way of speaking to his audience as a musician. His music evokes raw emotion. Mozart is brilliance at its best: pure, well-structured, yet daring to be different.

Mitchell is also interested in composition. He has written Clover Dance for clarinet and piano, inspired by Scottish tunes and fields of green. He hopes to continue composition and to one day tell his own life story portraying the hardships and the great memories through music.
