2019 MusiciansJye Todorov

Jye Todorov is a versatile Melbourne-based bassoonist. Although particularly interested in the neo-classical period, he is experienced across solo, chamber, orchestral, and operatic repertoire.

An alumnus of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Jye graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) under the tutelage of Hugh Ponnuthurai. During his time there he regularly performed with the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra including tours to Sydney and Singapore, was a finalist in the Concerto Competition, and received a number of merit-based scholarships. This year will see Jye commence training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

Over a decade of playing has seen Jye freelance with a wide range of ensembles such as Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Opera (including a tour to China), The Art of Sound Orchestra, and Gertrude Opera.

Drawing on a diverse pool of teachers and pedagogues, Jye has previously studied in masterclass with Lyndon Watts (ex-Principal Bassoon Münich Philharmonic Orchestra), Martin Kuuskmann (University of Denver and Grammy-nominated soloist), and Paul Boyes (Academy of St. Martins in the Fields). He has also had lessons with players from Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and London Philharmonia Orchestra as well as participating in Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp, and the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (AISOI).

Jye currently plays on a 1973 Püchner bassoon.
