A cellist from Perth, Jeremy Garside completed his Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2017, studying under Dr Suzanne Wijsman. This year he will commence his second year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) training under Howard Penny.
Whilst at UWA he was a recipient of a Wesley Music Scholarship in 2016, the Flora Bunning Prize for Chamber Music in both 2015 and 2017, and was a finalist in three consecutive years in the Vose Concerto Competition - winning the People’s Choice award in 2016 and the Vose Memorial Prize in 2017. Jeremy has also performed as a soloist with Allegri Chamber Orchestra and in the Philharmonic South West’s 2016 Ferguson Music trail.
Jeremy has been actively involved in many orchestras in Perth in both tutti and principal positions, including the UWA Symphony and String Orchestras, the Chamber Orchestra of St. George’s College, WAYO, the Orchestra of St. George’s Cathedral, and the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra. He has also participated in Australian Youth Orchestra programs since 2016, as well as the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute in Hobart in 2015.
Jeremy has been selected to play in masterclasses with Nicolas Altstaedt and Alban Gerhardt, as well as members of the Borodin, Modigliani, and Enso Quartets. In 2014, he played in the post-concert chamber music performances held as part of the WASO Beethoven Festival.
