Jarrod Callaghan is a vibrant young performer with a passion for the simple things in life. Having a music teacher as a father, Jarrod started on cornet at age five, and began piano lessons at age seven. At the age of 12 he wanted a new challenge and taught himself the trombone, the following year he won the NSW State Juvenile Trombone competition.
Jarrod studied his Bachelor of Music at Sydney Conservatorium, learning with Nigel Crocker and Scott Kinmont. Whilst studying at the Conservatorium, Jarrod was extensively involved in chamber music, and performed with the Conservatorium's Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. Jarrod was a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2017 and 2019, and whilst a member he enjoyed touring Europe and China where he performed in some of the world’s amazing concert venues, including the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Jarrod has worked as a casual musician with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
When not in the practice room or on stage, you can catch him relaxing with a coffee. Jarrod is looking forward to all the adventures that the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) will bring in 2020.
