Jarrod is a vibrant young performer with a passion for the simple things in life. Having a music teacher as a father meant an early start for Jarrod, beginning the cornet and drum kit from five years old, and progressing through the AMEB piano program from the age of seven. It wasn't until he was 12, that Jarrod wanted a new challenge and decided the trombone was the way to go. Teaching himself the instrument, the following year he won the Juvenile State Solo competition in NSW. Throughout secondary school, Jarrod was involved in many of his school’s musical productions, providing experience as a pit musician for the young trombonist.
Jarrod studied his Bachelor of Music at Sydney Conservatorium, learning with Nigel Crocker and Scott Kinmont. Whilst studying at the Conservatorium, Jarrod was extensively involved in chamber music, and performed with their Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra.
In 2017 Jarrod was a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra and looks forward to returning for the European tour in July 2019. Jarrod has worked as a casual musician with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Australia Orchestra.
Having a passion for coffee, Jarrod works part-time as a barista. When not in the practice room or on stage, you can catch him relaxing with a coffee listening to vinyl.
Jarrod looks forward to all the adventures that the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) holds in 2019.
IN JARROD'S WORDS
“In today’s world, music is even more relevant and important than ever before, as it allows the listeners to stop worrying and get lost in another world. So I look forward to building my reputation as an orchestral musician with a thriving chamber career.”
