David Barlow is a dynamic and incisive young performer and chamber musician with a passion for traditional concert repertoire as well as new music.

Inspired by the sound of the double bass after attending a concert in his home town of Newcastle, David switched from bass guitar to double bass at the age of 16. A year later, he was awarded a scholarship for private tuition at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. David completed his undergraduate degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Kees Boersma. During this time, he was fortunate to win a scholarship to study with Prof. Alois Posch at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Currently studying with Damien Eckersley at the Australian National Academy of Music, David is looking forward to upcoming projects at ANAM.

David has played with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and has played extensively with the Australian Youth Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with Paul Ellison and Ali Yazdanfar.

David plays on a late 19th century Hawkes Panormo restored by Matthew Tucker.
