Carol started playing the bassoon from the age of nine, and she later studied under Professor Zhaolu Liu, Principal Bassoon with Shanghai Symphony and Bassoon Professor at Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Since moving from China to New Zealand in 2010, Carol has received numerous national and international accolades for her solo performance, including First Prize of Melbourne Recital Centre's Great Romantics Competition 2019 and First Prize of Australian Youth Classical Music Competition 2019, Pettman National Junior Academy of Music Scholarship, and several prizes in the Australian and New Zealand Double Reeds Competition.
Carol has performed as a casual musician with several professional orchestras, such as the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, and she had a one-year contract with OPUS Chamber Orchestra as the Principal Bassoonist. She has performed as one of the soloists alongside her former teacher Ben Hoadley in Vanhal’s Double Bassoon Concerto with Devonport Chamber Orchestra and will also have her solo debut with Geelong Symphony Orchestra in 2020.
Carol is inspired by the high standard of music making in Australia and commenced her training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in 2017. She has also had great pleasure working with several world-class bassoonists such as Lyndon Watts, Sergio Azzolini, Whitney Crockett, Ole Kristian Dahl, Matthew Wilkie, and Sophie Dervaux both in Australia and Europe.
