Ben Jacks holds the position of Principal Horn in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. One of Australia’s leading horn players, he has a busy solo and chamber music career, and is Head of French Horn at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).
Ben was born in Hobart and studied at the University of Western Australia under Heidi Kepper. He has since learned from Dale Clevenger, Gail Williams, Stefan Dohr, Professor Erich Penzel and Hector McDonald. He was appointed as Principal Horn of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2001 after holding the position of Principal Third Horn from 1998.
Having performed with every professional orchestra in Australia, Ben also enjoys playing internationally as guest Principal Horn, notably, in 2013 with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev. He has a busy solo career performing in recitals, brass quintets and in 2012 as soloist with the Sydney Symphony.
Ben has recently broken into the career of a recording artist with his debut CD “Rhapsodie” for the Melba label featuring Barry Tuckwell as conductor.
