Richard Gill (AO) founding Music Director and Conductor Emeritus of Victorian Opera, has been Artistic Director of the Education Program for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of OzOpera, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Dean of the West Australian Conservatorium of Music and is currently Artistic Advisor to the Musica Viva In Schools Program. In January 2016, Richard Gill will take up the position of Music Director of the Sydney Chamber Choir.

He has conducted all the major Australian opera companies, symphony and youth orchestras, New Zealand Symphony and Youth Orchestras, Sydney Chamber Choir and Sydney Philharmonia Choir. 2015 will see Richard conduct  Discovery and Anzac concerts with SSO, Ears Wide Open with Melbourne Symphony, “Unwrap the Music” with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, A Midsummernight’s Dream(Britten) at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Sydney Chamber Choir,  the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and work at the International schools in Taipei and Singapore. Richard Gill will also deliver the 2015 Peggy Glanville Hicks address.

Among Richard’s many accolades are the Bernard Heinze Award, Honorary Doctorates from the Edith Cowan University of Western Australia and the ACU, and the Australia Council’s Don Banks Award.
