Zela is a recent graduate of the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music where she completed her Bachelor of Music with first class honours (2016) under the tuition of Peter Neville. She is a Melbourne-based percussionist whose practice focuses on contemporary solo and chamber music, and is particularly drawn to performing music that explores unique combinations of sounds and textures.
Zela enjoys being a freelance percussionist in Melbourne, and has performed in the Melbourne Festival (Ethereal Eye, 2016), Melbourne’s Metropolis New Music Festival (2012), was featured in a video installation during the Melbourne Now Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (2013/2014), and performed inside a float for the Moomba Festival Parade (2014). Zela has also performed as a Speak Percussion Emerging Artist in the Melbourne Fringe Festival (AUTOMATION, 2012) where she developed her first performance installation titled Performance Anxiety, which took place at The Substation.
This year, while attending the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) as a foundation student, Zela will be completing a Marketing and Communications Internship with BalletLab at South Melbourne’s Temperance Hall. Zela is looking to extend her practice and passion for interdisciplinary arts and is very excited to use this internship as an opportunity to develop her skills and knowledge of working with contemporary arts organisations.
