Caleb Wong began studying the cello at the age of six under Takao Mitzushima and has learned from Uzi Wiesel for the past seven years. He was awarded both the AMusA and LMusA in cello, and AMusA in piano, all with distinction by the age of 15. 2016 is Caleb’s first year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).
This year, he is a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, touring with them in July to Europe and China. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Australian Youth Orchestra Ernest Llewellyn Memorial Scholarship enabling him to participate at the Keshet Eilon Strings Mastercourse in Israel. He was one of the finalists at NSW Drs Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship and the recipient of Matana Foundation Scholarship at Sydney Eisteddfod. Last year he was a Young Artist Festival Fellow in the Canberra International Music Festival. He has broadcast for Fine Music 102.5, ABC FM Riverina, and ArtSound FM Canberra. In addition, Caleb formed a string quartet with his siblings and presented annual concerts for over ten years in the surrounding country towns including Temora, Grenfell, Young, and Cootamundra. The quartet also performed at the Australian Singing Competition semi-finals, 7th World Congress of Families VIP Reception 2013, as well as many community events, weddings, and functions.
